Rheumatoid arthritis
Persistent soft swelling of small joints, prolonged morning stiffness and difficulty making a fist can indicate inflammatory arthritis.
- RF can be positive without rheumatoid arthritis and negative in true disease.
- Anti-CCP is helpful but is interpreted with symptoms and examination.
- DMARDs—not repeated painkillers alone—are used to control rheumatoid arthritis.
- Persistent synovitis deserves prompt rheumatology assessment.
